The City of Vidalia is moving forward with plans for significant improvements to its water system infrastructure as part of a proposed project currently under review by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA). As part of that process, the EDA has issued a public notice and is conducting an environmental review in accordance with federal requirements.

The proposed project includes the construction of a new 1,000-gallon-per-minute deep well, a 250,000-gallon elevated water storage tank, and approximately 17,250 linear feet of 16-inch water transmission main. These improvements are designed to increase the reliability and capacity of the City’s water system while improving fire protection for residents and businesses in the area.

The project will primarily benefit Memorial Health Meadows Hospital, the Country Estates neighborhood, and surrounding areas. In addition to improving water service, the upgrades will support the hospital’s planned expansion and future job creation.

The proposed well and elevated storage tank will be located on McDilda Drive, with the new transmission main extending along portions of McDilda Drive, CV Mosley Boulevard, North Morningside Drive, Lincoln Lane, 6th Avenue, and Meadows Parkway.

As required by federal law, the EDA is accepting public comments as it evaluates potential environmental and historic preservation impacts associated with the project. Project information is available for public review at Vidalia City Hall, located at 302 E. First Street, or by emailing ga-vidalia@erassist.com. Written comments must be received by the EDA no later than 5:00 p.m. Eastern on August 31, 2026.
